06:48 pm - Stuff
I just lost all the code-running I'd done today. I accidentally closed the MATLAB window and the whole thing is gone T_T
The flux-limiting code took like more than 3 hours to run as well :O

Also, drummania V3 is here. The guy who is awesome at DDR gave it a go and I was worried for a second but no, he sucks. Still pretty confident to call myself 2nd best ^^
I'm never going to be 1st though, that other duder kicks way too much ass.

They downgraded most of the high-level songs I can do, because they realised they aren't that hard. On a plus note though Under Control is now a 96 and I pwn that song, often getting an A for it.

My favourite site in the whole wide word, www.mafiascum.net/forum, is down. Has been for about a week now. I'm so upset T_T

Other than that, just marking and continuously putting off meeting with Graeme. The usual.

10:13 am - Everybody is the Same Underneath it All
No, they kinda aren't.

I don't like hearing "despite your sexual orientation, your fashion, your race, we are all the same". We are not all the same - obviously. And you cant even say we all deserve basic human rights, because we're locking people up in jail all the time.

I think what we all deserve is a chance to prove ourselves as decent human beings. And that orientation, fashion, race, etc. shouldn't be basis for judging whether people have successfully proven themselves.

04:33 pm - Random Media Commentary
New Survivor: Yes, they divided the teams by race. No, this isn't really any worse than when they divided teams by age/gender/etc, and even the people on said teams are making racial jokes so get your hands out of your pants nublets.

"Predator Locations": I'm really sick of hearing news about convicted predators living near schools, or playgrounds or whatever. Even if we assume that their time in jail didn't cure them and they are still serial whateverers, why does it matter where they live?! It's not like these people don't have cars  There's like a new story about this every week... it's purely sensationalist fearmongering.

A Violent Society: Is there really any evidence society is becoming more violent? I'm thinking back to the cavepeople days here and I'm thinking, "no." If there is it's all drugs' fault anyways, not some slipping of moral values.

The Child Abuser: I saw this infi ridiculous thing on ACA a while ago and was just reminded of it recently. There was some woman who wanted to make pictures of children crying, supposedly to show how children would feel if they knew the state of the world (hi, I'm another wanky artist). Anyways, to get the children to cry she would give them a lolipop, and then take the lolipop away, taking pictures of the children's reactions. And this was labelled child abuse! A FREAKIN LOLIPOP!
It's not like the kid would even care 5 minutes later (in fact it's a solid bet they got the lolipop back after the photo shoot was done anyway.) And ACA is interviewing people saying things like "the lolipop was given in trust." Yeah, because a three year old is crying because their trust of some random stranger with a camera has been violated . Ugh.

The Infinite Curry: Some big guy gets "blacklisted" from the curry buffet at some Indian store, because he ate too much. Now these Indian dudes clearly aren't angels, because they do tell the camera that they never said he ate too much (and then get caught on hidden camera saying exactly that), but the entire story was misrepresentitive. First, the big guy is complaining that he was discriminated because of his body (NO, he was allegedly discriminated against because of his appetite). Secondly, the restaurant didn't appear to have "blacklisted" him at all. THEY REMOVED THE UNLIMITED CURRY FOR $9.95 DEAL ALTOGETHER! This was briefly mentioned by the story itself, and is further corroborated by the fact that you get to see people eating at the restaurant but never get to see the buffet itself (it no longer exists). Screw you, ACA.

And yet I cant stop watching T_T

09:30 am - Global Warming
I think Global Warming is like religion. Agnosticism is the best bet.
No matter how 'scientific' it all is, it isn't. I can find quite convincing arguments on both sides, and they're all bullshit. They all make arbitrary distinctions and look at only specific points...
I've been reading an argument thread on it, with all the environmental liberals being just as bad as the douchebag conservatives (seriously, they suck even outside this thread) - it all goes nowhere. Because climate change is such a difficult beast to successfully and accurately model, asking for r

I know there are a lot of people who say "maths is a definite science, there's always a right answer", which is absolute crap beyond high school (especially applied maths like I'm doing), but at least it seems a lot harder to write papers just to further your own agenda. YAUS I WILL MISLEAD THE ACADEMIA INTO BELIEVING FINITE DIFFERENCE IS BETTER THAN FINITE VOLUME.

Now I go get some breakfast before plunging back into the mind-numbing retyping of my honours thesis.

04:24 am - MediaWatch
The "Steve Irwin Tribute Movie" was nothing but "Steve Irwin: Collision Course" with a different name. I found it quite amusing that they found the real title too embarassing to actually tell it to the public. Shameful the way they tried to trick viewers into watching it by calling it a tribute.

Today Tonight (or was it A Current Afair) is doing yet another piece on teenage gangs. Only specifically targeting Asian gangs, as if there's any difference between Asian gangs and any others. Blatant, despicable hatemongering.

"Thank You For Smoking" is labelled by many as a good movie, but you will like it only if you idolise people who have confidence or are a sheep with little individuality. I cant explain why, but that's the feeling I get. It has its moments, but I found it overall kinda boring.

Peace out.

About 80% of people voted kids were being exposed to sex too early on some ninemsn poll.

Here's the solution, guys and girls: When you adults stop exaggerating the importance and severity and ADULTNESS of sex, kids will stop being so damn interested in it. Look at the ads for shows like Entourage, or Las Vegas... "Watch us, because we have sex in us!". So long as people can get suckered in by such bullshit, kids will keep trying to emulate it.

A cricket-commentator gets banned from his job for calling a Muslim player a terrorist (as a joke, I presume), but our Government specifically singles out Muslim hate books for banning (not as a joke). Does anyone else see a problem with this?

And yeah, arguments can be made for the banning of hate books. But specifically muslim ones? I don't see how that's not prejudiced.

Tuesday, 04 July 2006: Do you think the Big Brother incident was sexual harassment?
Yes: 49180 (42%)
No: 67987 (58%)

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Friday, 30 June 2006: Would you support the death penalty for convicted child murderers?
Yes: 113575 (81%)
No: 26866 (19%)

Why only child murderers?

Thursday, 06 July 2006: Should Australia have a public register of convicted sex offenders?
Yes: 55151 (91%)
No: 5712 (9%)

Why not people convicted of other serious crimes?

Yep, more proof that the general populace really is actually retarted. Sometimes you start to think that everyone really is more liberal than made out and we're getting better, but no...

And that Big Brother thing... O.O What IS sexual harassment if not holding someone's arms while you rub a penis in their face? Oh right, saying things like "you have nice legs".

Kinda blows that other statistic about no women going on to do honours or PhDs out of the water... but which one is lying?

Just found it interesting while checking my mail.

AIRS is the worst assignment ever:

It is

- boring
- you don't learn anything from it
- not difficult, but time-consuming
- no set due date to make you get it done
- for a subject which is only pass/fail

Whine, whine.
